Using just three silkscreens, one for the sun, one for the horizontal colour bands, and one for the dot overlay- Warhol achieved an extraordinary variety of moods and tones. The result was a series that transformed the hotel’s interiors into a glowing gallery of pop art sunsets. Of these, 472 prints adorned the hotel’s walls, while 160 were assembled into 40 rare portfolios, now highly prized by collectors.

Unlike Warhol’s celebrity portraits, Sunset shifts focus to nature, atmosphere, and emotion. The bold circle of the sun radiates against sweeping gradients of colour, evoking serenity, warmth, and the quiet rhythm of day’s end.
