Artwork Description

In the summer of 1882 Monet rented a small cottage at Pourville on the Normandy coast and walked the cliff path each morning past a customs hut and a fisherman’s cabin at neighbouring Varengeville. He painted the cabin in at least nine canvases that year, working out how its red-tiled roof, brown stone walls and roiling cliff-side garden caught the changing light off the English Channel. The version held by the Art Institute of Chicago is one of the warmest of the group.

Here that painting is reissued in exhibition-poster format, ringed by a generous oat-coloured border and titled in classic museum typography – ‘CLAUDE MONET / The Fisherman’s House at Varengeville / 1882’. The impressionist landscape print sits in a tradition of European exhibition graphics and works as a contemporary frame for one of Monet’s most-loved seaside paintings. Claude Monet (1840-1926) is the central figure of French Impressionism.

This impressionist masterpiece print suits Perth and Fremantle homes in chalk, oat, plaster, sage or warm white. The terracotta-and-turquoise palette anchors a living room, sunroom, hallway, holiday house or above a long sideboard, and pairs cleanly with rattan, oak, linen, aged brass and a single rust or olive cushion. It carries a clear seaside feeling without ever drifting into seaside cliche.

Available as stretched canvas, white floating frame, slim black framed print or archival lustre paper. Each Monet inspired wall art piece is hand-finished in our Perth workshop and shipped Australia-wide on rigid backing, ready to hang.
