The movie is based on the 1927 book of the same name by Herbert Asbury and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz. The movie is set in 1862, when a Catholic-Protestant feud erupts, just as an Irish immigrant group is protesting against the threat of conscription.
